2001 Speaking/Events Highlights
November 2001
November 14
Christian Heritage College
Recording artist Mary James ( www.maryjames.org)
opened the meeting by singing her beautiful song, "Little Things". Dan was then
introduced by the President of the College, Dr. Vance Yoder. Dan brought the challenge
of HOPE to the 750 students and faculty in attendance. At the end of the meeting Dan
met with Justin, a young man whose brother had a car accident in April 2001. His brother
suffered a spinal injury and will spend his life in a wheelchair as a quadriplegic.
Dan's words were a real encouragement to Justin as the Whitney Hope team made many new
friends.

Thank you for speaking at Christian Heritage College a few weeks ago. It was a very
memorable chapel that touched our students deeply. One student, whose brother experienced
a similar situation, was impacted tremendously by your message. He had his entire family
come hear you later that night at Point Loma.
The opening video was great and really set the stage for your message of hope and
inspiration. No speaker here has ever received a standing ovation as you did when you
concluded your message and walked down the steps.
Thank you again for speaking and may God bless your ministry as you continue to serve Him.
Sincerely In Christ,
Carl Creedon

San Diego North County Young Life
Two crowdbreaker games, to focus on togetherness, brought a lot of fun moments for the
high school students. Dan was introduced by Rob Sprague, director of Young Life. Dan
brought an emotional message on overcoming those things that can take over one's life.
Following the meeting, a number of students and staff hung out with Dan to ask many
questions. One young lady was concerned for her friend who recently had a serious
accident. She was feeling guilty for not spending time with her friend in the hospital.
Dan encouraged her to visit her friend and to just sit with them quietly in the hospital
room, being that true friend.

Thank you so very much for sharing your life, your
faith, and your message of hope with our Young Life
club in San Diego. Our kids were gripped by your story
and I look forward to discussing it with them in the
days ahead. The thing that struck me most was not even
the details of your story, but the total peace that
you have and have had in your life. I am warmed,
proud,
and happy to call you friend now, and look forward to
hearing about your personal progress and that of the
Foundation. Thanks again.
Blessings,
Rob Sprague

PLNU Disability Class
Dan spoke to Point Loma Nazarene University college and graduate class of potential
leaders in the field of disabilities. Dr. James Johnson encouraged Dan to speak
about the many problems in the disability field and present the direction that
Whitney Hope plans to impact the handicapped community. Dan presented invaluable
information to those who will be working in the disability field. Side note: Dan
met Rachelle Taylor, a San Diego State University student from Fresno, who was
injured in a snowboard accident in 1998. Full of life and excited for her future,
Rachelle gave a brief testimony of her life as a paraplegic. Rachelle will be
involved in Camp Attitude Southern California next summer.

over 200 friends of the Ranch. The camp will be held at Rancho del Rey in Oakview, CA

the first time a camp for the disabled will be held on the grounds. A number of people
expressed their interest in helping with the camp. It will be exciting for many

"I can't thank you enough for the time you spent addressing my
Entrepreneurship class. Your message was both an inspiration and a
blessing. Your perspective as a Point Loma alumnus gave your remarks a
credence that impacted every student present. They realized that you had
been just like them a few years earlier, and that the remarkable success you
have achieved is within the reach of each of them. I know that the testimony of your
life will serve as a lasting inspiration to the students who met you and a
challenge to all of us to live out our faith in all we do."

I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for making time to speak
with our Entrepreneurship class on Thursday, October 11. Your recent life
story is inspiring. It was helpful to hear from a PLNU graduate that has
become successful in business. Whitney Hope is an
outstanding organization and I look forward to watching it grow. You should
definitely continue speaking to students. You have motivated
me to follow my passions.
Thank you

Mr. Whitney,
Thank you for speaking in my Entrepreneurship class last Tuesday. I was the
student sitting next to you on your left. My name is Gib Holloway and I was
also the student you interviewed during your presentation. We didn't get a
chance to talk afterward as much as I would have liked so I'm sending you
this e-mail.
Mr. Whitney I have seen some physical adversity in my life but it pales in
comparison to what you have been through. I was truly blessed by your
testimony and encouraged by your attitude. I think the Whitney Hope
Foundation is a wonderful achievement and a worthy cause.
Sincerely,
Gib Holloway

Ariba International Sales Convention
Dan was invited to be the concluding speaker for the Ariba International Sales
Convention on October 25th. Dan is very well known throughtout the Ariba corporation,
and Chairman of the Board Keith Krach felt that Dan's personal comeback from his
injury would be the opportunity to bring a closing challenge to the international
sales team of over 300. The theme of this event was "The Comeback". The other special
guest speaker for the conference was former NFL star and University of California
Berkeley head football coach, Joe Kapp (his Cal team was best remembered for the last
second touchdown that ended up with the Cal player running through the Stanford band
in the end zone). Dan was the last guest speaker for the week. He was brought to the
conference as the "mystery guest" . . . Dan was then introduced by Keith to a standing
ovation. Dan gave a very inspiring message, giving his lifestory of his recent
comeback from his spinal injury. He encouraged and gave hope to his listener and
concluded with the audience giving a final standing ovation. It was a great day
for the Ariba team and for Whitney Hope.

I am usually very cynical about motivational speakers, especially
sportsmen, with whom I have little in common.
I was pretty jaded after a long sales meeting, but I found your talk truly
inspiring. Just to see you walk on the stage was thrilling, as I had seen
you in the wheelchair in Vegas. Your resilience, and ability to use humour
to get through your trials was powerful. What really brought it home was
the picture of you on your hospital bed with some horrendous frame-thing
attached to your skull, and your two daughters hugging you. My daughters
are the same age. I'm sure being able to hug them again was one of the
greatest moments of your comeback.
The foundation looks like a great idea, and you have found a powerful
ministry.
Thanks for being a true Ariba friend.

Redwood Christian School
Dan spoke at Redwood Christian School in Castro Valley, California, in the Chapel to 450 students grades K-6.
"Thanks for doing such a great job of talking to the level of our
students. I think that the students from Kindergarten to Sixth Grade,
all 450 of them, were all able to track with you and understand what you
were trying to communicate. Thanks!
As I was walking my class back to our room, a parent walking with us
expressed her feelings about what you said when she said, "What a
powerful story!" The next morning in our faculty meeting, several of our
teachers expressed their thanks to you for coming and speaking."
