Another day and more exciting progress for Dan! Today is the day the hospital staff has dreaded – Dan is mobile in his motorized wheelchair!! He is using his chin to steer and accelerate but will control these with his right arm as soon as it’s strong enough. Candi admitted she was little help to Dan when she left him alone to get him a drink. Dan was headed straight for the wall but when she tried to stop him, instead of stopping him, she pushed the toggle the wrong way and sent him INTO the wall! Candi said a “Student Driver” sign might be useful.

Other exciting news is that Dan stood up in physical therapy today! A device that is used in physical therapy helped Dan to a standing position and then he stood by himself for 15 SECONDS! Towards the end he told the physical therapist that he was “…dizzy, no, just a little dizzy, no, really dizzy!” and they braced him so he wouldn’t fall if he passed out. The therapist said this is a normal reaction.

Dan also has new movement in his left leg!! Praise the Lord! Thank you for your prayers! Dan is seeing evidence of these prayers everyday!!

Dan will be moved to another rehab unit (in the same hospital) on Wednesday. Candi has asked that visitors come to see Dan only between 6 and 8 pm. Dan is in several types of therapy that are filling up his day and leaving little time for rest. Please also remember to keep your visits to 15 minutes or less.
