January 26, 2001
Dear Friends and Family,
Well, once again I apologize for my laziness in keeping you all informed
(especially you, Pastor Dan – I’m sorry I did not write the update when I
got home on Thursday)!
Thursday, January 25, was another busy day for Dan. Among his many visitors, Dan and Candi were very happy to see their
former pastor from Tucson, Pastor Dan! He
made a special visit to come and see Dan and the exciting work that God is doing
in Dan’s life!
Besides his normal occupational and physical therapy, some time was also spent
training Dan on how to walk another person through transferring him from the bed
to the wheelchair or the wheelchair to the bed. We (it’s best to have several people who know how to do this) spent
30-45 minutes practicing this on Wednesday and Thursday. Candi has also been learning about caring for Dan at home.
A rental van (equipped to transport a wheelchair) was delivered on Wednesday
afternoon, so Thursday morning Carole, the occupational therapist, took Dan
outside to practice getting in and out of the van. She also wanted to make sure
that Dan and his chair would fit in the van.
Friday, January 26, what an awesome day!! Today
was the day Dan had been looking forward to, for quite a while!! Dan went through his normal routine of occupational therapy, exercise in
the gym, and physical therapy with Darrell. During his physical therapy session, braces were put on Dan’s legs for
the first time, and he took four steps forward and four steps back on his own
flanked by Darrel and Bruce! He was
very excited to have accomplished this before he left the hospital! Praise the Lord!
This afternoon Dan was brought home and was thrilled to be there! (Was the best part about coming home the big screen TV, look at the new
pictures, is that a hockey game?) The
living room and dining room have been temporarily redesigned, as Dan’s room
because it’s on the same level as most of the house and Dan can be mobile in
the main parts of the house. Friday
evening was spent getting Dan settled in at home. Nicole and Dani were very excited for their daddy to come home!
Please continue to pray for Dan and Candi! They are very glad that Dan is home but the work is not over!
