My Baclofen pump is working again. It's absolutely amazing how much my leg loosens up with the pump. I've had to promise not to go on any more Boardwalk rides though. My next hurdle to get over is getting my left arm to loosen up. I received my Botox shots (14 of them to be exact) in my bicep, tricep, and forearm. The needle has an electric impulse that fires a shock into the muscle, and then the medicine is injected. The pain is intense, but the reward is use of my left hand for the first time in over two years. The medicine is supposed to last 3 to 4 months. Then, we do it all over again.
Last Sunday I went on a date with my daughter Dani. It was a time set aside for just the two of us. We decided to go to the beach and get some Ice Cream. I sat quietly and watched Dani walk through the sand and pick up drift wood. She sat next to an elderly lady and dug her stick in the sand. I watched as the two of them talked and laughed. A few minutes later the lady passed me and said "What a beautiful little girl. She just made my day." I smiled and returned my eyes back to Dani. My eyes began to fill with water and I did my best to keep the tears from falling. I had a huge lump in my throat. Dani turned around and saw me crying and said "Are you alright Daddy?" I smiled at her and said "I'm alright Dani...Daddy's just really proud and happy".
Since breaking my neck, it's amazing how much more moments like those consume me and how much they mean. I wanted our date to last forever....
